FEEDING PROGRAMME: DAY 1 TO 6 MONTHS

Day 1–3: Provide good quality colostrum at 10–12% of the birth mass. Ideally provide the first feedings 2 hours, 6 hours and 24 hours after the birth.
Day 4: Provide 4 litres of milk per day for large-frame calves and 3 litres per day for small-frame calves over two feedings per day.
Provide clean, fresh drinking water from day 5.
Provide calf starter diet ad lib from day 3 or 4 until 3 months of age.
Provide complete calf grower diet ad lib from 3 months of age to 6 months.
These calf diets are palatable and contain medications to prevent acidosis and improve feed conversion rate and growth.
These diets provide all the necessary minerals, trace minerals and vitamins.

FEEDING PROGRAMME: 6 MONTHS TO STEAM-UP

Complete heifer grower diets from 6 months and older are also available from your Molatek salesperson.
Alternatively, the complete calf grower diet or the heifer mixed concentrate can be fed at 3 kg per day for largeframe heifers (Holsteins) and 2,5 kg per day for small-frame heifers (Jerseys) plus ad lib access to roughage or pasture.
Molatek Master 20 can be given to heifers from 5 to 6 months old at 1 to 1,5 kg/day and provides protein and energy in a balanced form.
These are only examples and intake will depend on the quality of the raw materials.
Intake should be monitored and managed daily to ensure that heifers perform according to the relevant growth curves.
If heifers are growing too fast, less of the mixed concentrate should be fed with ad lib access to hay/pasture.
These diets provide all the necessary minerals, trace minerals and vitamins. It is strongly recommended that
heifers receive an injectable vitamin-trace mineral solution three weeks prior to calving.
